Piper Cub Module Syllabus

The goal of the Piper Cub Module is to help you develop your basic stick and rudder skills, learn the basics of flight and learn to navigate around airports and the traffic pattern.

Piper Cub Flight Log – Use the flight Log to record your flight assignments. The Flight Log doesn’t have any prereq’s. Just record your flight assignments as you do them and then submit the Flight Log after your check ride.

  • 1st Cub Flight – an intro to the Piper Cub
  • Taxiway Markings, Signs and Lights – Introduces you to the airport taxi areas
  • Runway Markings Explained – How to read a runway
  • Basic Flight Maneuvers – Straight & level flight, ascending/descending, turns, range & endurance
  • Ground Reference Maneuvers – Turns around a point, S-turns, figure 8’s
  • Learning to Fly a Tail-Dragger Aeroplane – Tailwheel basics
  • Flying a Tail Dragger – Tip #3 – Taxi + Run-up + Take-Off – Shoes Matter! – Putting it all together
  • The Airport Traffic Pattern – Learn the traffic pattern and how to land
  • Takeoffs and Departure Climbs – How to get into the air
  • Tail Dragger training – Wheel Landing on pavement – How to do a wheel landing
  • Landing a Tailwheel Aircraft on Grass – How to land a taildragger on grass runways
  • Tail Dragger check ride – Complete the module with your check ride
  • Submit your Flight Log
